The ancient craft of hand weaving which has unfortunately been allowed to die out in many parts of England has been revived in the quaint old world village of Thaxted in Essex through the work of the Rev Conrad Noel the Red Priest who is celebrating his silver jubilee as vicar of the parish He has introduced folk weaving into the parish and now - as a result of his efforts to restore his church to a model of medieval beauty - many fine tapestries and fabrics fashioned on hand looms by the townspeople adorn the church Father Noel has faced constant criticism from all quarters for his preaching of Christian Communism and once hung the Red Flag in his church Photo shows Mr Arthur Caton who has been weaving by hand for several years at his hand look (right) in Thaxted in Essex September 26th 1935
