Miss E W Cain of Victoria in London won the Post Office telephone Golden Voice competition which was judged at the Central Telegraph Office in London by Mr John Massfield ( the Poet Laureate ) Dame Sybil Thorndike with Lord Iliffe and Mr S Hibbard ( Chief announcer of the BBC ) Mrs E D Atkinson of Oak Lawn in Burley in Wharfedale in Leeds who was selected as the perfect telephone subscriber also acted as a judge - photo shows the judges of the competition - left to right are Major Tryon ( Postmaster General ) Mr S Hibbard with Dame Syvile Thorndike and Mr John Massfields - also pictures are Mrs E D Atkinson and Lord Iliffe June 21st 1935
