Thieves broke into the Garrick Theatre Charing Cross Road and tried to break open three safes but failed - cartons of cigarettes which they had dropped were found scattered near the stage door - the thieves slept in the manager's office where they left an alarm clock which had been set for 5.45am - in one of the safes was ?00 - photo shows Mr W M Arthur ( manager of the theatre ) checking over the money after the attempt February 7th 1935
