A new robot sorter which it is claimed can work three times as quickly as the system previously used is being tried out at the General Post Office in Brighton as an experiment - an operator working the new machine can deal with three thousand letters every hour - the operator sits at a keyboard and as she depresses one of the levers a receptacle opens and one of the letters on a moving band drops into it - there is an appropriate opening for every letter and all the operator has to do is depress the correct key - a similar system is already in use in Rotterdam - photo shows a sorter using the new robot sorting machine at Brighton March 21st 1934
