The case heard by Mr Justice Swift in the King's Bench Division in which Mrs Florence Austin Newton of Hampstead Garden Suburb in London - wife of Mr Cyril Raymond Newton the dance band leader - is claiming damages for the enticement away of her husband - reached its concluding stage - The defendants in the action are Mrs Pat Hardy of Newcastle and Mr Harold John Hardy of Scarborough - Under the law a man is responsible for his wife's wrongful acts - the case is the first of its kind to be heard in a British court - Mrs Florence Austin Newton leaving her Hampstead home for the Court June 26nd 1933
