London's and probably Britain's first help-yourself store is proving a big success at Wood Green, where it has recently opened. British housewives seem to like this time-saving American idea. They take a wire-holdall upon arrival, and then walk round at their leisure inspecting the taking their own goods from the counters. There is no sales staff to bother them - only a manager and a girl to weigh out vegetables. When the shopping is done, the housewives take their goods to the cash desk, where delay is still cut to a minimum. One girl takes points, etc and another tots up the bill and takes the cash.
