The world's fastest military planes - the Spitfire I, an all-metal low-wing monoplane and the Vickers Wellesley, a long-range bomber and general purpose aircraft - were demonstrated at the Eastleigh Aerodrome in Southampton. Built for the Royal Air Force by the Supermarine Aviation Works (Vickers) Limited, both machines are equipped with retractable undercarriages. Spitfire I, a day and night fighter, is equipped with wing flaps. Both machines are to be on view for the first time at the R.A.F. Pageant at Hendon on 27th June. Photo shows the Spitfire I in flight during the demonstration on 18th June 1936. - ?005 TopFoto
