London: Due to shyness by the girls of Soho no entrants turned up for the annual waitresses race during the opening festivities of the Annual Soho Fair week today. To save the situation, members of the crowd who turned up to watch the fun, joined in the fun themselves and staged the race. Late entrants was Gina Poole, 21, of blackpool, who is by profession a waitress but Gina wasn't wearing the right clothes for a race, and with a tight skirt, hobbled home last, but received a cheer from the crown for her sportiness. 10 July 1960
