The fires of the city took more than a week to die down sufficiently to allow the RAF to take reconnaissance photographs. These showed that although the damgae would seriously inconvenience the city for three to six months vital targets had survived. But not all of them, these two photographs show the extent of the destruction in the railway workshops of Cologne-Nippes.
