Illustration from the book GERMANY 1918-1933 Revolution counter-revolution and the rise of Hitler by Simon Taylor - Page 31 - Eugen Levine. Born in 1883 in St Petersberg (Leningrad) he was educted at boarding school in Germany. He took part in the Russian Revolution of 1905, was arrested, imprisoned and finally exiled to Siberia where he worked in a lead mine. He escaped from Russia, and later studied economics at Heidelberg university. After serving in the German armed forces during the war, he worked in the Rheinland and Upper Silesia, before being sent to Munich by the Berlin Communist Party after Eisner's murder. A brilliant organiser and inspiration to those around him, Levine was often torn by self-doubt and lacked the ruthlessness required of a successful revolutionary leader. - 固opFoto
