Southport, England: America's Jack Nicklaus creates a cloud of dust as he hits out of a bunker on the third fairway during yesterday's opening play in the Ryder Cup Matches over the Royal Birkdale. Nicklaus was partening countryman D.Sikes against Britian's Peter Butler and B. Hunt. The american pair won the foursome by one hole. At the end of the first days play Britian led the United States by four matches to three with one halved. 19 September 1969
