Laos: A laotian couple are shown smoking opium in their secret spot. Following independence, the former French Colonies of Laos, Cambodia and Vietman outlawed opium. But while the newly independent states tried hard to stamp out local addiction, they were largely unable to cope with illegal traffic of international smugglers. At least one of them -- Laos-- was too busy fighting an anti-communist war to deal effectively with the international traffic, An attack on the problem would have to have been made at the root among the minority hill tribesmen who grow the poppies, acomulate their sap and dry it into the brown loaves from which the drug itself is processed. 2 August 1965
