The Japanese plane, in foreground, fell under heavy ack ack fire sent up by the American task force which established a beachhead on Lingayen Gulf, Luzon, 9th January 1945. This picture by a coast guard combat photographer graphically shows the invasion traffic moving ashore to back to the early waves of attackers. Japanese planes came over to strafe coast guard-manned landing barges as they hit the beach.
