Scene of Great Tidal Wave. Hilo Bay, where the sea after receding, swept landwards in a wall of 15 feet high. Motorists on the sea-front abandoned theri cars and fled up the inland slopes. The cars were picked up by the tidal wave which also carried away the railway bridge and shops along the sea-front. The Island seen in the picture is Cocoanut Island, well-know to all visitors to Hawaii. 6 February 1923
