Hilo Bay where the sea, after receding, swept landwards in a wall of 15 ft high. Motorists on the sea front abandoned their cars and fled up the inland slopes. The cars were picked up by the tidal wave which also carried away the railway bridges and shops along the sea front. The Island seen in the picture is Cocoanut Island well known to all vcisitors to Hawaii 1923 Hilo, Hawaii
