Merton Place The house was originally built by Sir Richard Hotham, Kt, a London merchant. It was at one time in the possession of Thomas Sainsbury, Lord Mayor of London, and afterwards of Mr. Graves, who said it to Lady Hamilton, acting on behalf of Lord Nelson. It has long since been demolished. The moat was artificial.
