Austria Graz.It is an old town, important centre of traffic in Roman times, and even now combines quarters of picturesque old houses and churches with modern factories, theatres etc. It lies in a plane surrounded by ondulating hills in the wide valley of the river Mur, and in the main railway line from Vienna over the Semmering mountains to Italy and Yugoslavia. In the middle of the old town rises the Schlossberg, which has always been a fortified point, and before the war was one of the main attractions of the city spreading around it far below, and across the plain to the mountains on every side. 23 March 1944
