12th January 1950: Alex wilson. Photo shows: Arsenal goalkeeper, Alex Wilson, who won an FA cup winners' medal during the 1935/36 season, is something of an inventor, as well as a net minder He has devised a "football firing" machine to aid Brighton and Hove Albion, the team for which he is now the trainer. Balls can be propelled from the machine at the rate of six per minute, from any angle and varying distances. The Engalnd team manager, Walter Winterbottom, as well as Arsenal and Manchester United managers, are said to be interested in the invention.
