Famous Hungarian composer and piano virtuoso Franz Liszt. Franz Liszt first performed as concert pianist as an eight-yaer-old boy. From 1821-23, he was student in Vienna with Von Czerny and Salieri as teachers, then in Paris with Paer and Reicha. From 1839-47, he travelled through Europe, in 1842, he became Director of Music at the court in Weimar where he taught about 400 students. In 1850, he was nominated Honorary President of the German Music Academy which he had helped establish. In 1861, he went to Rome where he received minor orders and wrote church music. 1869, he returned to Weimar to compose. Countess Marie d'Agoult was his mate for a long time and the couple had three children, among them Cosima, who became the wife of Richard Wagner, Togehter with his son-in-law, Franz Liszt had great influence on the "New German School". In his piano works, he introduced a new style of music (tremoli, glissandi) which had great importance for the further development of piano music. On H. Berlioz' suggestion, Franz Liszt became the German representative of symphonic poetry.
