One man power on the croft. The days of man hauled implements are not yet ended, for at Quarff, in the Shetlands, at least one crofter uses the old routine. He says it is not as hard as one would imagine (at 67 he is perhaps used to it) and he prefers to do as his father did. Mechanical means are available to him for other work - but for harrowing he likes it this way. Incidentally, he was putting in a catch crop of grass on oats. His name is Alec Malcolmson. The headland in the background is Bressay. 6/6/57
