Nobel Prize winners. Stockholm: The five Nobel Prize winners look at their diplomas after the glittering award ceremony in the presence of King Gustav and Princesses Margaretha and Birgitta. Left to right: Williard F. Libby, of University of California and former member of the Atomic Energy Comission (chemistry): Professor Peter Medawar, of Hampstead, Noth west London (medicine): Sir Frank MacFarlane Burnet, of Australia (medicine): Donald A. Glaser, also of the University of California (physics): and France's poet-diplomat Saint-John Perse (litterature). Libby received his prize for his development of a process which measures the age of ancient relics by their radioactivity. Medawar and Burnet won the award for their discovery that a body's rejection of material from a foreign body is not inherited but developed gradually in the foetus and the young organism. And Glaser accepted the physics for developing the "Bubble Chamber" which makes it possible to study high energy beams used in nuclear science. December 10th, 1960
