Awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics for his pioneering theories on condensed matter, especially liquid helium, pictured at the Academy Sciences Hospital with his wife Cora. Professor Landau is in hospital recovering from an auto accident in which most of his vital organs, - heart, kidneys, and central nervous system were damaged.
