3rd September 1947 British troops arrive back from India. About 1,000 men of the British Army withdrawing from the new Dominion of India, and some 250 servicemen's families arrived at Liverpool aboard the troopship Georgic from Bombay. Most of the men of the Royal Norfolk Regiment who have been stationed in the Punjab since 1940 and were the first British unit to be officially evacuated. Private Jones of Manchester, brings home a giant Teddy bear among his kit as he lands at Liverpool today.
