69 injured and 200 arrested in Calcutta riots. Police officers seen as they discuss the situation while Congress volunteers (right) prevent students from advancing on the University building where they inteded to hold a protest meeting. Students were demonstrating their sympathy with the Vietnamese "in their struggle against the French". The demonstration was in defiance of the Calcutta police Order which prohibits thte assembly of five or more persons. 29th January 1947
