Famous Love Stories of our Time. Crown Prince Rudolph of Austria. Heir to throne of Austria Hungary Crown Prince Rudolph was unhappily married. When he was 30 years old he fell in love with Baroness Maria Vetsera 18 year old Viennese girl. The court was scandalised, the Emperor order Rudolph to break off friendship. On January 30th 1889 news reached Vienna that the crown prince and Maria Vetsera had been found dead in Rudolph's hunting lodge at Mayerling. Unable to give her up he shot Maria and himself. The full story of the tragedy was not known for many years.
