Arkle, ridden by Pat Taaffe, is pictured hitting this fence hard and almost falling. but the phenomenal horse fulfilled the prediction of almost everyone by going on to win the Cheltenham Gold Cup on the third day of the National Hunt meeting. The horse behind Arkle is Dormant, ridden by M. Scudamore, which came second, and third was Snaigow, ridden by D. Nicholson 17th March 1966.
