12th seeded Richard "Pancho" Gonazales (US) in action during the Men's Singles (first round) against Charlie Pasarell (US) in the 83rd Wimbledon All-England Tennis Championships. Gonzales won the match 22-24, 1-6, 16-14, 6-3, 11-9. Yesterday, the two players played one of the greatest sets of Tennis in Wimbledon History, a record equalling 46 game first set, which Pasarell finally won by breaking the 41 year old veteran's service in the last game to win 24-22. Gonzales asked the Umpire to stop the match because of darkness, but Referee Capt Mike Gibson ruled they should continue and Pasarell won a second set 6-1 to set the stage for the finish of the match. 25th June 1969
