The Princess and the Pilot, 17th July 1953 The posting of Group-Captain Peter Townsend, until recently equerry at Buckingham Palace, to the British Embassy in Brussels, has once again focused attention on the future of 22 year old Princess Margaret. In recent years her name has been linked with a number of "eligible" men - many of whom have since married - but never before has there been such a likely match for the Princess as the 38 year old former Battle of Britain pilot. Many people, however, are against the marriage, for Group-Captain Townsend was the innocent party in a divorce, and he was given the custody of his two children. Photo Shows: Group-Captain Townsend stands behind Princess Margaret at Shashi railway station, Bechuanaland, during the Royal tour of South Africa, 22nd April 1947.
