Bermondsey Brightens Up Her Bomb Sites, 1950-306 There are 280 bomb sites in the Borough of Bermondsey. Following the suggestion last year by the Lord Mayor of London that London boroughs brighten up their bomb sites as part of their local contribution to the Festival of Britain, an appeal was sent out by the Mayor of Bermondsey to local industrialists, youth clubs, schools and individual residents to "adopt" sites and turn them into something useful or decorative. The Elim Cycling Club adopted this elephant type shelter at the bombed corner of Wild Rents & Long Lane, Bermondsey. They use it as clubroom, machine shop & starting point for their cycling club which tours countryside every Sunday, goes camping weekends every holiday. Here older members help 14 year old Dan Stubble fix his cycle. Whole street is interested in project.
