Bentley Hangs This morning at nine o'clock, Derek Bentley, who was sentenced to death for his part in the Croydon police murder, was hanged at Wandsworth Jail. Last minute attempts to stay execution failed. Large crowds who had gathered outside the prison gates booed and shouted when the notice reading that the hanging had taken place was pinned up outside the prison.
