The inch by inch raising of the 1,000 tons deadweight of the submarine Truculent from her muddy grave in the bed of the Thames. Culminating two months work, the ex-German lifting vessels 'Energie' and 'Ausdauer' took the strain at low tide and slowly the radar mast and conning tower broke surface. The submarine was beached on Cheyney Spit, where salvage workers burned away a hatch cover to gain entry to the vessel. Picture shows a radar mast breaks surface alongside one of the lifting vessels. 15th March 1950.
