THE STOKE PRIOR TREASURE We show part of a valuable treasure of 16th and early 17th century silver found in a rabbit burrow at Stoke Prior, near Leominster, Herefordshire, on December 16th, 1891. The most notable piece in the group is the silver gilt "Bell" Salt and Cover on the right, bearing the London hallmark for 1594-5. The smaller "Bell" Salt on the left, with a ring handle at the top, is also silver gilt and bears the hallmark for 1596-7. Two cups are shown: the larger has the London hallmark for 1578-9 and the smaller that for 1637-8. These are now in the Victoria and Albert Museum, South Kensington.
