New York, USA, an undergarment manufacturer withdrew on August 26th a pantie-girdle called stars n stripes from the market as a result of protests from the Daughters of the American Revolution. Thef ate of the unmarketed girdles is unknown but the manufacturer speculated that they might be given to a foreign charity. Mrs Carl Crittenden, head of the Daughters' flag committee, who demanded the withdrawal said " I believe all patriotic citizens will agree with me that it is deplorable to downgrade our flag in this fashion" 27th August 1965
