STALAG LUFT III TRIAL AT HAMBURG Picture shows British military police guarding Otto Preiss of Karlsruhe Gestapo recieving a death sentence for his role in the murder of 50 RAF and Allied servicemen after they escaped from Stalag Luft III in Silesia in 1944. Fourteen of the eighteen SS and Gestapo men were found guilty of the murders by a British war crimes court in Hamburg today and sentenced to death, the remaining four were given prison terms. 4 September, 1947
