A serious situation has arisen at Bayonne and other French port as thousands of refugees pour in from Santander. The refugees are being brought in Spanish fishing boat. The trawlers arrived with every foot of deck space occupied by men, women and children, and the situation is made more difficult by the fact that many militiamen still have machine guns, hand grenades and other weapons, which they are reluctant to give up. 27 August 1937
