Several hundred gorgeous costumes of the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries formed one of the most unusual collections ever to be seen in London. The collection, through which British sartorial history can be traced, decade by decade, was made entirely by one man and is now to be sold as a New Bond Street (London) auction rooms. Photo shows, trying on a coat of blue grey corded silk with embroidered sprays of flowers, and a waistcoat of cream worded silk, designed with trellis work, one of the many elaborate costumes in the collection, dating from 1770. 18 November 1937
