Blizzard shatters telegraph poles. Buses, cars and lorries were marooned in deep drifts, power cables and telegraph poles brought down and trees blown over by the force of the blizzard which swept the South of England. Worse havoc was wrought in the New Forest Area, where motorists were marooned all-night and several towns plunged into darkness. Photo shows, a broken telegraph pole on the Lyndhurst to Bournemouth Road. 8 December 1937
