Women find freedom in the new Turkey. In the short space since the end of the World War, a new Turkey has arisen in place of the despotic regime of the sultans. Women particularly have found a greater freedom following the abolition of the veil and they are taking part in public life undreamt of by the women of only three decades ago. Education and physical fitness are primary objectives of the younger generation in the new Turkey, and in place of the old, picturesque, but insanitary buildings of the Ottoman Empire modern skyscrapers and flats are rising. Ankara has replaced Istanbul as the capital. The man chiefly responsible for these sweeping reforms is Kamal Ataturk, who drove the Greek army forces from Asia Minor in 1922, and established himself as president and virtual dictator a year later. The Ataturk is now 57 years old. Photo shows, men and girls rehearsing at the school of dramatic art in Ankara. A scene like this would have been impossible and unheard of in the old Turkey
