Women's champion runs city cafe devoted chess. Sitting tense in a silence broken only by the rattler coffee cups, chess 'friends' have found a haven in a City of London cafe, aptly named 'The Gambit' in Budge Row. The only cafe in the world dedicated entirely to chess, it is run by Miss Edith Price, who has been in Budge Row for 37 years and has herself been four times woman chess champion of Great Britain. Many of the players come from all parts of London and some stay till well past midnight. Photo shows, coffee cup in hand, a player thinks out his next move at 'The Gambit'. 7 December 1937
