Southampton woman becomes world's only deep Sea yacht skipper. Leaves to take up command. Miss lita Clare Edwards, daughter of Brigadier General R F Edwards, left Southampton on the way to Gibraltar to take command of a yachts and become the only woman, DC yacht skipper in the world. After only nine months tuition at the School of Navigation, Miss Edwards obtained her Yachtmasters Certificate. The examination, apart from the elimination of two subjects, engineering and ships business, is the same as that for a Masters certificate. Miss Edwards, who is a member of the Hamble Sailing Club, is establishing a president for her family by turning to the sea. A father, and most of her male relatives have been soldiers.
