Max Schmeling, the German ex-heavyweight champion of the world, again emphasised his right to be recognised as a contender for the title when he gained a technical knockout over Harry Thomas, at Madison Square Garden, New York. Schmelling gave his opponent so severe a drubbing that the fight was stopped in the eighth, of the scheduled 15 rounds.
