Gravesend's River postman has been running his 'round' for 50 years. Mr Herbert Fethergill is completing 50 years, service as the River postman at Gravesend. His 'round' is from Higham Bight to Deep Water Wharf, Northfleet, a distance of 5 miles. Although he is now 72 years of age, Mr Fethergill is still agile enough to clamber aboard ships to deliver mail. Despite his long career, Mr Fethergill has never had a uniform, though local MPs have tried hard to get one for him.
