Tommy Farr, British Empire champion, was beaten on points by James J Braddock, former world heavyweight champion over 10 rounds at the Madison Square Garden, New York. Disappointed at the verdict, far refused to shake hands, turned his back on Braddock, kicked over the pail in his corner and left the ring. He later apologised.
