Many injured in Brussels riots. Please clash with war veterans. Fierce fighting broke out in Brussels when 15,000 ex-servicemen and war widows marched through the streets to demonstrate against the granting of an amnesty to Belgians condemned for aiding the enemy during the German occupation in the war. The fighting occurred when war veterans try to break the lines of police guarding a 'neutral'zone surrounding Government offices. Many police and demonstrators were injured. Demands were made for the resignation of the Government and 400 ex-soldiers lay down on the pavements in front of the Royal Palace demanding that the King should receive a deputation. The King eventually did receive a deputation and the demonstrators dispersed. Photo shows armed police, mounted and on foot, closing in on an enormous crowd of demonstrators. 24 June 1937
