69 Devil's Island convicts returned to Paris. Bewildered by the changes. 23 murderers and 46 men condemned as dangerous and habitual thieves have arrived back in Paris after having been released from Devil's Island, the penal settlement in French Guinea. Some of the men have completed their sentences and others have been pardoned. Never before has such a large batch been released at one time. Some of the men who had been on Devil's Island for many years, could hardly believe their eyes when they looked on the Paris of 1938. Photo shows, the release convicts being fed by the Salvation Army in Paris, the first meal in the capital for many years. 24 January 1938
