Woman stabbed three times in London shop, fishmonger runs to her assistance. Mrs H Bowls of the Handy Stores, New Road, Bermondsey, was stabbed three times by a young man who asked for a package of tea. Hearing Mrs Bowls cries, Mr John Flain, the neighbouring fishmonger, rushed from his bed to her assistance. On the way he upset his till, the noise of which scared Mrs Bowls, assailant, who escaped on a bicycle. Nothing was taken. Both Mrs Bowls and her husband or old age pensioners. Photo shows, Mr John Flain and his wife. They were the first to tend Mrs Bowls after the attack. 2 August 1938
