Man, accused at Southend, said to have posed as Dr and married woman, according to American law. Accused of posing as a 瞿5000 a year doctor, James Samuel Hunt, aged 35, of Stanford le Hope (Essex) appeared in a false pretence charge at Southend. Marriage in 'the special American fashion'was mentioned by Mr Shorter, prosecuting, and meant, according to Hunt, the signing of a document in front of the American Ambassador and the sending of the document to America. Hunt who was married in London in 1934, agreed to marry a Miss Ivy Dorothy Thorogood of Wakering (Essex) in this style in 1937. Miss Thorogood believed the proceeding had been carried out and lived with Hunt as man and wife until his arrest. Hunt was charged with 17 cases of obtaining money by false pretences, involving 瞿315, most of which was said to have been obtained from Miss Thorogood's relations.
