Country postmaster fires at burglars, roused by daughter as raiders worked. Mr George May, the 53-year-old postmaster at Downe Post Office, near Farnborough, Kent, surprise burglars in the early morning and fired at the car as they drove away. Later, the car was found abandoned with the nearside window riddled by bullets, a mile and a half away. Mr May lives over his sub post office and general stores at Downe with his wife. His 23-year-old daughter, Gladys, sleeps on the ground floor. She was awakened at 3 AM by noise in the shop and crept upstairs to arouse her father. Mr May correct downstairs with a revolver and surprise. The two men who were raiding his shop. The men got away only with a few cigarettes, which were found in the car..
