Delegation from East Lampeter, Pennsylvania, home of the Amish and Mennonite sects, visited Washington, DC, to urge that the Public Works Administration grant of $13,000 for the erection of a new school to be cancelled and that contractors now work on the job be paid off. They stated that they had no desire to have a school built so far away from their homes, that the children would have to use motor buses to go to classes. Their religion permits of no luxuries, and further, they said, since the children are destined to be farmers. They should be given a chance to develop sturdy legs. Photo shows, Jonathan Zook, the leader of the delegation, talking with their attorney, John Landberg (right).
