After 15 years work in the district, the "Costers' Bishop", the Reverend CJ Barker, conducted his last service for London's costermonger at St Mary's Church in Massinger Street, in the Old Kent Road, South London. He is retiring due to health reasons. The Reverend Barker entered wholly into the life of his parishioner, even visiting all the public houses in the parish, during his early days in the district. Photo shows: the Reverend CJ Narker leading the procession of pearly Kings and Queens into the church for the last time today. 11 September 1938
